Choosing the Right Recovery Company
Is your data important to you? One data recovery company might appear to be just as qualified as another. Don’t be a victim of low prices and false promises.
How much do you care about your data?
At first glance, many data recovery companies appear to offer the same level of service. Progressive Tech has a proven track record of successful data recovery, and has earned the trust of tens of thousands of satisfied clients. Many of the data recovery firms listed online may not be what they appear. Many, including well known national chains, pretend to offer local recovery services, but are usually simply acting as middlemen. These companies perform no recovery onsite, and actually ship your drive out of state to their true “lab.”
Pricing & Promises
Due to the vast array of data loss scenarios, up front flat pricing quotes are usually something to be cautious of. Many recovery situations do not require cleanroom service, which may cost several thousand dollars. Be cautious of any company offering a flat rate without physically evaluating your unique situation.Speak with a Recovery Advisor
Highest Success Rate in the Industry
We've teamed up with our friends at DriveSavers to offer our clients a single solution for every type of data loss scenario.
Essentially, storage drive failures can be categorized into 3 general levels. For many recoveries, we’ll be able to perform recovery right here at our lab in Seattle. We are highly successful in dealing with level 1 and level 2 recoveries. For projects that require level 3 recovery service in a cleanroom, or for special circumstances, our partnership with DriveSavers provides the highest chance for success.
- Level 1 – Early stages of failure, low level failure and/or accidental deletion/loss. The most common type of failure. Very likely be a successful in-shop recovery.
- Level 2 – More intensive failures involving firmware, circuitry, and more advanced mechanical failures. Good chances for in-shop recovery, but may need to be upgraded to tier 3 service for full recovery.
- Level 3 – Catastrophic failure. Typically requires cleanroom level service. The most difficult type of recovery. Level 3 cleanroom services required and a free evaluation with Drivesavers is recommended.
The truth about advanced data recovery
Many recovery projects are misdiagnosed as requiring level 3 recoveries, often adding excessive cost to a potentially straightforward recovery project. With us, you can be assured that we’ll always accurately diagnose your project and offer honest advice and accurate quotes for recovery.
Why cleanroom level service may be required
A clean room is a specially controlled environment completely free of airborne dust, dirt and hair particles. Technicians working in a clean room environment wear special suits, masks, shoes and gloves. This is needed due to the nature of drive based storage. Any particles that get onto the surface of a disk will permanently render the data unrecoverable.Speak with a Recovery Advisor

Frequently Asked Questions
Let us help relieve the stress and anxiety associated with data loss by answering some common questions.
Can you recover my data?
There are many types of hard drive failures with varying severity, but most of the time, recovery is possible, even under extreme cases. The question is more often than not, can the data be retrieved at a price that makes sense?
Hard drives operate on the same principles as classic record players, using a spinning disk to hold data and reader arm (or digital needle) to read it. The recovery-advisorkey to avoiding data loss is to make regular backups of your data, and to have your computer serviced or managed regularly.
How much will it cost?
Depending on the storage medium, severity of failure, turnaround time and success rate, costs can range anywhere from under $100, up into the thourecovery-advisorsands. Professional evaluation will narrow down quote tremendously.
How long will it take?
Depends on the specifics of the recovery. Often in as little as 24-48 hours may be possible. However, some recoveries can take weeks or longer. Essentially, storage drive failures can be categorized into 3 general levels. Level 1 being the fastest and cheapest, and level 3 being the most labor intensive and expensive.
“Can you restore my computer to exactly the way it was? ”
This is platform specific. For Windows based data recoveries, we are not able to save functional copies of software applications; we are only able to save files and data created by those programs. For Mac, sometimes it may be possible to save some applications in certain situations. Software applications are integrated into the operating system when first installed, and when a hard drive fails or an operating system reinstallation is necessary, all programs will be lost and will have to be reinstalled, either from disc or by downloading the application(s) from the Internet.
“Why did my hard drive fail?”
Like any mechanical device, all hard drives will eventually fail. Hard drives are extremely delicate and typically last between 3 and 5 years. Drives can fail at any time when damaged by moisture, heat or shock. You should always back up your data with the knowledge that your hard drive can fail at any time and without warning.
“Why is data recovery expensive?”
The fact is, data recovery is not just software by any means. It is a specialized micro-mechanical and electronic trouble-shooting process that requires a great deal of experience and resources. The resources, staff and facilities required to deliver professional recovery are immense. That’s why its critical to go with a service you can trust to deliver the best value possible.
“What about hard drive repair options?”
While it is possible to repair a hard drive, it is generally cheaper to replace a drive rather than to repair it. Hard drives can only be repaired in special clean rooms, and the process wipes any data from the drive. For this reason, data recovery is always attempted first, and once the data has been saved, then the drive can safely be sent in for repair or replacement.More Questions? Call Us
