A: Every Windows machine serviced at Progressive Tech is evaluated to ensure current and functional Anti-Virus and security software is being used. When Progressive Tech replaces, upgrades, or installs a fresh operating system or new hard drive, we will install a free 30 day trial version of Kaspersky. In addition, any machine serviced which either lacks protection or is running expired, outdated, or free security software, will have Kaspersky Internet Security installed on it. This is done in order to protect our clients from online threats and to provide a free opportunity to evaluate the leading Internet Security software currently available.
A: If you would like to continue using Kaspersky, please contact us directly to purchase an activation code. Multiple computer discounts are available. If you have elected not to use Kaspersky, go to the Control Panel and uninstall the application. Please be aware that you will be doing so against the professional recommendation of Progressive Tech. Kaspersky provides the overall best all-in-one software based protection available with the least amount of user action and system resources required (compared to other products such as Norton and McAfee).
A: 100% guaranteed protection does not exist on any platform including Mac. Many trojans and other malicious software applications require the user to install them by masquerading as a legitimate program. In these cases, if the user intentionally installs the malicious software, no anti-virus software will be able to help. Most malicious programs are downloaded from adult websites, or computers are infected by downloading music and videos from file sharing services, or by downloading cracked / pirated software. There is no way to be 100% safe, the best you can do is run Kaspersky and educate yourself about the Internet and how to stay safe while surfing. Progressive Tech offers 1-on-1 tutoring to educate clients on how to recognize and avoid malicious software. Please contact us for more information.
A: In our experience, Kaspersky rarely causes problems with Internet use or computer functionality. You can quickly determine whether Kaspersky is blocking Internet access or interfering with a software application. On the lower right corner of the screen, in the Windows Task Bar, there will be a red "K" icon. Right click on this icon and select "Pause Protection." If problems continue after pausing protection, the problem is not being caused by Kaspersky. Please contact us for assistance in resolving your issue.
A: Free support for Kaspersky is provided ONLY from Kaspersky Lab directly. Direct support from Kaspersky is provided via e-mail and user forum; there is no phone based support.
